From FAANG to The Magnificent Seven

Post by KBleivik »

Most investors have heard of the FAANG stocks. The five stocks that make up the FAANG group are Facebook (now Meta Platforms), Amazon, Apple, Netflix and Google (now Alphabet), but have you heard of the magnificent seven?

Jim Cramer names his ‘Magnificent Seven’ stocks that are the real deal.

The real deal? Be careful if you can not stand (wild) fluctuations. If you invest in one of these stocks, they can fluctuate more than 100 per cent in a short time. In less than two years NVIDIA went from an ATH of about USD 320 to USD 115. Some days ago the stock passed USD 400 to a new ATH. The company was the first semiconductor company that passed a market capitalization of USD 1T (one trillion). The driver is the hype around generative AI, that some analysts mean will be as important as the internet itself. Of course, it will increase productivity, decrease unit labour costs and increase the competitiveness of the companies that make profitable use of the technology.

Is AI dangerous? AI is a black box with sometimes billions of layers between the input and output. In a sense it is a modern form of article spinning on the whole internet information set and its own big data database. It is not dangeroue, but it is dangeraous for the companies that don't use the technology. They may lag behind in profitability. It is not static as traditional article spinning, but dynamic and constantly learns and improves. But the output can be meaningless, misleading and even false. You have to make your own due dilligence of the output. Garbage in is definitely garbage out. As you shout in the forest, you get an answer. If you put rotten meat in a meat grinder, you get rotten meat dough.

Will Google's Bard be better than ChatGpt that drives Bing's new search / chat solution? With a background in newral networsk from 1996 (Cand Scient thesis delivered at the mathematical institute at the university of Oslo), I know that the Bots will improve but I am not so impressed as CNBC's Jim Cramer. A neural network is a method in artificial intelligence that teaches computers to process data in a way that is inspired by the human brain. It is a type of machine learning process, called deep learning, that uses interconnected nodes or neurons in a layered structure that resembles the human brain. But it is dead material unless you inject the system into a Gorilla. Is (will) that (be) possible? Those who live will see. Guns may be misused, and so technology, so it should definitely be regulated, rather sooner than later. The technology may be used to make deep fake news and deep fake manipulated videos. You may improve your writing, write a summary of what you wrote, write better emails and marketing campaigns, make images and videos and even deliver program code. ‘Everyone is a programmer’ with generative A.I., says Nvidia chief.

For trvial projects and code, that is correct. Some programers will be eliminated and others reduced to quality controllers. AI's ability to deliver code will not least improve efficiency, reduce costs, and give those companies that know how to use the technology and solutions a competitive edge.

Is there a new dot com bubble? There may be overoptimism, but in my view not as serious as the bubble that bursted in march of 2000. It is a real deal when your company now only need one (digital assistant) in stead of ten highly paid workers.
Nigel Green, the CEO and founder of one of the largest independent financial advice, asset management, and fintech businesses in the world caution that while the “Magnificent Seven” equities that account for around 90% of gains on Wall Street’s S&P 500 this year are spectacular, they are not a panacea for investors.
Tecnical analysis is not always appreciated by investores. Personally I compare technical analysis to weather charts and fundamental anlysis to climate charts. Fundamental analysis says what (the comapny is) while technical analysis tells you when (to enter) and for how long, (that is when to take profit and exit part of or the whole investment).

You can do your fundamental and / or technical anlaysis at Nasdaq.com, for example of NVIDIA. You find most of what you need there.

Semantic video and article.

Jim Cramer highlights the stock market's 'Magnificent Seven' outperforming stocks
CNBC personality Jim Cramer is credited with coming up with the original FANG acronym back in 2013 when he recommended four high-growth tech stocks: Facebook, Amazon, Netflix and Google. The team was expanded to FAANG in 2017 when Cramer added Apple.
